S7E4: Predictions for “The Spoils of War”

It’s time for another prediction post!  But in case you haven’t heard, there has been another leak.  This time the leak is basically the entire plotline for this episode.  If anyone has read the plot leak for the entire season, I recently went back and compared what has happened to that leak and so far it has been pretty accurate.  There may have been some items moved around, shifted to a different episode, but so far it all seems legit.

As for this prediction, there will be potential SPOILERS, however I will do my best to speculate only on what has been released from HBO and NOT from the two leaks listed above.

With that being said, here is HBO’s official breakdown of the episode.

Oh wait.  I haven’t seen an official synopsis released yet.  What will I have to go by?!?!

There were 10 new images from the episode released by HBO.  Nothing exciting but it does confirm a couple of things in case you missed it in the preview (or live in a country where this is not available).

As with the podcast, I’ll aim here to break it down by region.

  1. Kings Landing: Cersei is having a lovely meet-cute with Tycho again.  They go take a peak at the Painted Floor (my name, trademark pending).  I hope it’s finished by now.  I’d hate the wet paint to ruin Cersei’s dress.  It seems Tycho is willing to back her, presuming that she follows through and gives him the gold.
  2. Dragonstone: it appears that Theon and some of the Greyjoys will make it to DS.  How will Jon react??  Theon betrayed Jon’s brother-cousin Robb and spent a LOT of time with Ramsey.  I’m presuming with the way timing and plot is moving that Sansa would have told Jon that Theon helped Sansa escape, and about some of the things done to him.  If this did happen it was off screen as far as I can remember.  I think Jon will have to let Theon slide.  Hopefully he’ll “ring his head like a bell” at least once, but I think Theon has more to do in this story.  He’ll survive today.  Jon will take Dany into a cave (ooh…will this be just like the cave with Ygritte?!  I’m suddenly hearing Marvin Gaye playing in the background… but no, not unless it’s a threesome since Missandei appears to be there too). I expect this scene to happen fairly early on, before Theon arrives, or at least before Dany learns of the disaster at Casterly Rock and Highgarden.  Tyrion will bear the wrath of the Dragon.  It sounds and looks like there will be a big pow wow on the beach of DS.  Sounds as if Tyrion is proposing another tactic but Dany brushes him aside and walks over to Jon, essentially asking for his help.  Whatever Jon says, at the end of the preview we get a glimpse of Drogon with a TINY figure on his back.  But where will they be going???  To help orient yourself, included is a map of Westeros.
  3. To the Reach.  We’re given clips of Jamie looking at his cache of gold and the army before him, though somehow it looks like they’ve made it to New Mexico.  I guess there are mountain/stone columns in the Reach.  If you know anything from the books about Aegon’s Conquest, or maybe paid REALLY close attention to the show, you may have an idea of what will happen here.  418f376f6f4cf5c1413466405876cc4f.jpgNote the location of Highgarden to the south and west, with King’s Landing being in the north east.  Also, though this map doesn’t show it, Dragonstone’s western shore is in Blackwater Bay.  I am expecting Dany to ride Drogon down towards Highgarden to get revenge on the army and get the gold and some of the supplies back.  If not to get them back, she can burn them and then no one will have it so they will be on more even playing fields.  She will take the late Lady Olenna’s advice and “be a dragon”.  If she takes all three dragons, it would be almost an exact re-enactment of the Field of Fire.  Another potential location could be to teleport to Euron’s location and burn all his ships (great idea!  Shoulda done that in Episode 3…) or up to Casterly Rock to provide air support.  On the map, If you go north and west from Highgarden near the top of the map on the western shore you can barely make out Lannisport and Casterly Rock.  So why do I think she is going to the Reach?  From previous HBO released previews we see Jamie and his army fighting Dothraki, and we see Jamie charging forward on his own as if he is hell-bent on killing something, or someone.  I don’t know what that could be, maybe Tyrion? ‘Cause there’s no way he could kill Drogon.  He’d burn his ass alive long before he could even get close.  Maybe he’s lost his mind at that point and is going for whatever kill he can get.  We also see red fire so we know it’s not green wildfire (or is it wildfyre?  Not sure…) and what else can do THAT much destruction other than “fire made flesh”.  Will Bronn survive?  Will Rickard/Dickon and Randall survive?  Will ANYONE survive??  Stay tuned.Game-of-Thrones-season-7-trailer-2-21.jpg
  4. North/Winterfell:  We get a clip of Arya on her horse staring up at WF so she will surely make her appearance.  We also see QUICK cuts of Pod falling down and Brienne bringing her sword down, likely sparring with him.  (SPOILER WARNING: SkyAtlantic released a quick commercial for GOT and it showed Arya with Needle, sparring with Brienne in this episode too).  There is another image of Sansa looking stunning under the weirwood tree.  I hope she’s not with Bran because he’s a big downer and will probably be worse under that tree.  Littlefinger is there…Littlefingering.  He is drawing the dagger but not in a threatening/menacing way as it is being held sideways and not with the tip pointed at an opponent.  Maybe he’s just staring at himself in the blades reflection, marveling at how cunning and creepy he is.  Tinfoil: MAYBE ARYA KILLS HIM, PUTS ON HIS FACE, AND HOLDS THE DAGGER HERSELF.

This episode is 50 minutes so here is what I expect to NOT show up: The Hound and his rag-tag bunch of mates.  Sam and Jorah (though it would be a welcomed surprise). Greyworm and the Unsullied army.  Tormund and the wildlings.  Edd and the Wall/Night’s Watch.  Dorne ANYTHING.  I’m 50/50 on whether or not we’ll get to see Euron and/or Yara.

Frankly, this is how I’d prefer it.  We don’t need to see every plot line in every episode. Let some time pass so we’ll have less to gripe about and it will make better sense logically.  Reminds me of the good ‘ol days.  You know…Seasons 1-4.

Comment below!  Where do you think we’ll visit?  What do you want to see?  What do you think I got wrong??  IS VARYS A MERMAN?!?!

S7E3 Predictions: “The Queens Justice”

These are predictions only, BUT, these are based off of things that have been posted by HBO, set photos, etc.  These are also based off of what I know from years of watching/studying TV and film (I did actually study film in England years ago) and from years of reading.  These are NOT based off of the Season 7 plot leaks.

Warning for potential spoilers!

As you all have guessed, the titles of these episodes are always very telling but should NEVER be taken at face value.  The HBO released descriptions are as follows:

  1. Cersei returns a gift.
  2. Daenerys holds court.
  3. Jamie learns from his mistakes.

Lets break these down:

  1. Cersei returns a gift.  As we saw in E2 the “gift” turns out to be Ellaria and Tyene.  If you recall from Season 5, someone (presumably Ellaria) sent a gift to Cersei: Myrcella’s necklace in the mouth of a viper.  This threat was later followed out in Jamie’s arms.  I am predicting that Cersei will want the same to be felt by Ellaria: she will murder Tyene in front of her.  It would be interesting if she could be killed with the same poison to bring it full circle.  It would be smarter of Cersei to keep Ellaria alive as a hostage against Dorne, but come on – it’s Cersei – so who believes that will happen?  Only thing I’m not set on is Yara.  I saw an image of Euron from the trailer for next week and I caught a glimpse of her.  I think he is taking her to KL too.  Again, might be a good idea to keep her alive as a hostage against whatever Islanders might still be willing to support her and not Euron, but I think this is the gift she is returning to Daenerys.
  2. Daenerys holds court because Jon and Davos arrive!  Yep.  Einsteinian-traveling somehow continues.  This is my biggest grievance with the show.  I understand that they don’t want to spend another 5 years/seasons with GOT but they are REALLY rushing things here.  (Also, if they had to sail past Sunspear to get to Dragonstone, why didn’t they just stop there and have a pow-wow before dropping off Ellaria and Sand Snakes???)  I’m also guessing that the writers chose Davos for a reason.  He seems to work really well to other royals/lords/ladies and will likely give another great speech to help sway Dany to their cause.  I think she will have her guard up at first but hopefully by the end of the episode she’ll soften.  I also hope Jon doesn’t just hit her up straight off the bat with the dead-army-need-to-mine-your-mountain deal.  But, that sounds more like Jon.  Sansa is the one with more tact and political thinking.  Jon shoots from the hip (no foreshadowing pun intended).
  3. Jamie learns from his mistakes.  BUT WHICH ONES?!?!  He’s made quite a few.  I’m a little puzzled on this one.  From the things that have been hinted at and released, I would presume this has something to do with battle.  It looks as if the Unsullied are going to make a huge play for Casterly Rock but I don’t expect Jamie to be there.  Perhaps the “mistake” was letting Tyrion go in Season 4.  Maybe it was trusting and loving Cersei.  Maybe it’s both since the words is, after all, plural.  Only time will tell.  There was a short clip of Jamie’s back walking through a gate/door/arch into what a lot of people are believing to be Highgarden.  I agree that’s the place since in E1 he said he should go there to get supplies for their army.  I have heard a spoiler but it’s from the leaks so I won’t mention it here, though plot-wise it does make sense.  Oh, maybe that’s his mistake!  He went to Highgarden and NOT Casterly Rock, knowing that Tyrion is helping lead with Dany, and knowing that Tyrion knows the defenses and weaknesses of Casterly Rock.  Gah…this one is making my head hurt.  The latest promo from HBO shows Jamie with Randal behind him so I’m thinking we also see them go to Highgarden tonight.  I thought this episode was only 50 minutes long but it’s not, it’s 61 or 63 minutes.  The next one is 50 minutes, so I guess we have time for two battles this week.

What else do I expect to happen??  Bran gets to Winterfell.  I also think he tells Sansa something at the Weirwood tree in the godswood and that is what makes her walk away with that worried look on her face.  I’d love to have a check-in with BWB and Sandor but I worry there will be too much this episode to work that in so maybe next week.  I think we’ll see more from Sam: he will get in trouble for working on Jorah when he was supposed to be shipped off or killed instead, but hopefully that won’t get him kicked out just yet.  I still think Gilly will have some part to play by reading something in the books but that may not be until next week.

As an added bonus, HBO Asia has released a title for the upcoming 4th episode!  “The Spoils of War”. I think it would be great if Jamie went to Highgarden only to find that the food he wanted had spoiled.  I don’t think that will happen, but it would be a nice play on words.

S7E2: Gut Reaction

As always, potential SPOILERS abound.  Ye be warned.

Welcome back to another glorious week of carnage!  This week the MITs (Lauren and Danielle) are discussing how we felt just after watching “Stormborn”, which can really be summed up in one word:

Shellshocked.

There was a lot that happened!  We will be discussing our thoughts immediately after the showed aired along with two segments: the Quip of the Week (though technically what we both chose don’t constitute as “quips” but you’ll see what we mean as you get to that part of the episode), and our Raise the Glass segment.

After only 2 previous podcasts, do you feel you know us well enough to predict what we choose?  What would be your Quips and who would you Raise a Glass to?  Please comment below.

And please subscribe and rate us on iTunes.  Reviews are always welcome, as is support.

We will see you again later this week for our mid-week recap after we’ve had a chance to rewatch and digest.  Admittedly, because of life situations (both of us are out of town and my work schedule means I may not get finished at a decent hour), the recap may be delayed.  It will at least be up before the new episode airs, so stay tuned for more!

Season 7 Episode 2 Predictions

It’s here!  We are two days away from another episode of GOT, and SDCC is underway.  There have been great posts on Twitter of people sitting upon the Iron Throne, fighting a horde of wights, and even sitting upon the Dragon Throne before planning battles at the Painted Table.

So what’s the most hype thing to come out of SDCC?

A new trailer.

NOTE: I don’t consider this section/article as spoilers given that these are all speculations based off of images/trailers already released and my own ideas about how things might play out.

That’s right folks, only this one encompasses the next TWO episodes!

HBO has also released more images from Episode 2 (“Stormborn”) and I think one of them is very telling.

This is Arya, on a lovely horse, in front of a building.  No big deal, right?

Does the door look familiar at all?

That is the same doorway to the inn where we last see Hot Pie!  And for good measure, we know that this is also in the Riverlands.  I did a little sleuthing and did not see the actor, Ben Hawkey, listed on IMDB as acting this season.  But, I am predicting that Arya will indeed meet with Hot Pie.  He will also have news for her: that a “knight”, Brienne (and Podrick) were looking for her and her sister in hopes of helping her.

I suspect his wolf biscuits have improved even more.  Hopefully the gravy for the kidney pie too.

I think she will see him and be reminded of who she was, back before her entire life revolved around a vendetta.  Back when her goal was not revenge, but reuniting with her family at her home in Winterfell.

I believe she was serious when she told the Lannister soldiers that she wanted to kill Cersei, but I believe Hot Pie will help her recenter herself and go back north instead of south. She’ll also encounter Nymeria, the direwolf she had as a girl, on her travels.  I do not expect Nymeria to stay with her for long.

I believe this is one of the main storylines that will be given further development this episode.  Others I believe are:
Euron (attempting to get a gift for Cersei)
Yara and Theon (fighting off Euron, and one of them possibly being captured)
Ellaria (we see her making out with Yara in a room of wood, most likely a ship given the black halls of Dragonstone, she she is also at risk)
Sam and Jorah and Gilly (Gilly will read something important, otherwise why spend so much time in the show devoted to her learning how to read? Sam will figure out who Jorah is and be able to help him based off his learnings from last episode)
Jon will fight a revolt (Vale army and other Northern houses not happy with his eagerness to go to Dragonstone) and freaking the F out on Littlefinger (I expect him to say “you know, Ned Stark held my neck in the same way, but he isn’t here to tell you about it”)
Dany (will met with Melisandre…”an unexpected guest” as mentioned in the episode descriptions).

Do you agree?  Disagree?  Comment in the section below!  And make sure to listen to our podcasts, now available here first, and on iTunes.

Hello fellow Game of Thrones lovers!

We, AKA Lauren and Danielle, are the Maesters In Training.  Tonight we are also accompanied by Mike, another show lover.  We will be discussing our immediate reaction to the Season 7 Premier!

This episode will include some possible spoilers for later in the season thanks to some plot leaks, but that is kept to a minimum.  There is also minimum mention of what has happened in the books as only one of us has read (Lauren), but still has not read all of the series yet.

This Podcast will also feature our first segment: the Heart-Stopping Moment, where we discuss what was the best death in the episode and/or the moment that made our hearts skip a beat from excitement and emotion.
